Jim Johnson Memorial Scholarship
Jim Johnson’s legacy is and always will be that of a passionate educator. He realized at the
early age of 13 that he wanted to teach. Although no one in his family had ever attended
college and the finances were not there for him to go, he found a way by applying for every
government grant, loan, and scholarship that he could. He received his BSE in English from
what was then Memphis State University. He taught for two years and then went back to
pursue his Masters in Education. His love for education and students continued to grow with
each passing year. His first administrative position was in Fordyce, AR. He continued to learn
from his mentors in Fordyce for seven years. He then applied for the principal position at
Jacksonville High School. JHS was where he really honed his skill as an administrator. After
ten years as principal, he was promoted to Director of Secondary Education for PCSSD. He
pursued his dream job as Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Education in Rogers, AR. He
retired from public school education in 2007, but was not ready to give up his passion for
education. He went to work for the Arkansas Department of Education training and consulting
educators throughout the state of Arkansas. His work ethic and professionalism were among
his most recognized and appreciated qualities.
Jim Johnson was a poor little boy from Memphis who did not know how he was going to go to
college. He just knew he had to go! Jim always tried to make dreams come true. He would
love to help your dream come true. Don’t let anything stand in your way. Your passion can
become your reality, just like it did for Jim. BE THE NEXT GREAT EDUCATOR!
